「ARPA-E and NEDO Workshop on Sharing Knowledge and Discussing Future Collaboration」was held

On July 12, NEDO, together with the Advanced Research Projects Agency Energy (ARPA-E) held the "ARPA-E and NEDO Workshop on Sharing Knowledge and Discussing Future Collaboration" in Washington, D.C. to introduce each other's overall activities toward carbon neutrality, to exchange ideas on strategies, plans, and issues in specific key technology and program areas of mutual interest, as well as to strengthen networks among key players in specific fields.

The day's program was organized by ARPA-E's PD (Program Director) and Director and NEDO's PM (Program Manager) and Unit Director (Head of each technical area of Technology Strategy Center (TSC)) in the four areas shared by both organizations: Renewable Energy, Power Systems, and Batteries; Industrial Decarbonization; Power Electronics for the Electricity Grid; and Blue Carbon. In the morning, representatives from both organizations gave introductory presentations in their respective fields, and in the afternoon, participants were divided into breakout sessions for each field to explain the specific status of their research, identify common issues, and discuss the possibility of future collaboration.

In conjunction with the event, a dialogue was held between Dr. Kishimoto, Executive Director of TSC within NEDO, and Dr. Wang, Director of ARPA-E. The dialogue reaffirmed the importance of technology development toward carbon neutrality to both the U.S. and Japan, as well as to the world, and examined how NEDO and ARPA-E, as government-affiliated funding agencies, should work together to promote international collaboration between the two countries. They also discussed the future of NEDO and ARPA-E as government funding agencies and the prospects for international collaboration between the two countries.

At the end of the day, a report was made on future collaboration in the four areas mentioned above, and it was a very meaningful meeting that will lead to future collaboration.
